Dr. Goodenough holds the following degrees: Ph.D. (University of Toronto), M.Sc. (University of Toronto), and B.Sc. (University of British Columbia). His current positions include Emeritus Senior Research Scientist with Natural Resources Canada and Adjunct Professor of Computer Science, Faculty of Engineering, at the University of Victoria. He worked in Ottawa at the Canada Centre for Remote Sensing (1973-1991), where he was a Chief Research Scientist and Head of Methodology Section and the Knowledge-Based Methods and Systems Section. He was also an Adjunct Professor of Electrical Engineering at the University of Ottawa. He has published extensively (>220 papers). He was elected an IEEE Fellow in 1997. He was a recipient of the Canadian Remote Sensing Society's Gold Medal Award (2004), the Government of Canada's Award of Excellence (1989), a Natural Resources Canada Departmental Merit Award, an Energy, Mines and Resources Merit Award, and NASA Group Achievement Awards. He has served as Principal Investigator for NASA projects in intelligent systems for radar and hyperspectral sensing, for ESA's CHRIS hyperspectral program and ASAR research, and for CSA's projects in hyperspectral, radar, and grid-architecture data analysis and management. He was a member for four years of the US Office of Technology Assessment's Advisory Panel on the Future of Earth Observation. He was a member of ASPRS and served the International Society of Photogrammetry and Remote Sensing (ISPRS) as a chair of two working groups, member of ISAC, and Technical Program Chair of Commission VII mid-term symposium (1990) on Global Monitoring. He was Technical Chair for CASI Aerospace and Electronics Symposia from 1974-76. He was Chairman of the International Association of Pattern Recognition's Workshop on Multisensor and Geocoded Data Integration. He was Technical Committee Chairman of the GIS'93 Symposium held in Vancouver, BC. In 1996, he was Technical Program Chairman of the 26th International Symposium on Remote Sensing of the Environment and the 18th Annual Symposium of the Canadian Remote Sensing Society. David Goodenough is a member of the IEEE Geoscience and Remote Sensing Society, the IEEE Computer Society, the IEEE Systems, Man, and Cybernetics Society and the Canadian Aeronautics and Space Institute
